The Arrival

I went into the hospital on October 8th at 7:00 am to finally be induced. I'm not sure which was worse, knowing that he was coming that day or waiting around for him to come on his time. Josh and I walked into our room which had a huge jetted tub. Josh was very excited!! I had to explain to him that it was only used for women who were going natural and I for sure wanted the drugs!! The nurse got me all set up on Pitocin, after poking me 4 times!! I have bad veins. Then I sat there and waited and waited and waited. To be honest I was very bored. Josh kept telling me to get some sleep but I just couldn't, not with my IV in my arm and the blood pressure cuff blowing up every 20 minutes. My contractions were about every 3-4 minutes apart and lasting about a minute and a half but were still manageable. The nurse came in and checked me and I was 5 cm dilated and kept asking me if I was doing ok and if I wanted the epidural. I told her I was doing fine. After she left I kept asking Josh if I should get the epidural yet, he told me it was better sooner than later!! So I rang for the nurse and she was saying everyone was wondering when I was going to get one. Apparently my contractions were bad... but I was ok. A few minutes later in walks this 90 year old man, not one of those cute old men, one of those awnry old timers!! Yep.. he was my anesthesiologist!! Let me just tell you this guy was a prick!! He kept yelling at the nurse and then lectured me on how I wasn't thinking about an epidural when I got the tattoo on my back!! Josh and I just sat there not knowing what to do or say. I mean we couldn't piss off the guy who was about to stick me with a 10 inch needle in my spine!! The actual epidural didn't hurt so much it was just a very weird sensation. Even weirder when you can't feel your legs! After my epidural, my Dr came in and broke my water. He told me I would probably dilate 1 cm an hour and push for 2 hours so I could expect a baby around 8 pm. At this time it was 2 o'clock. I just kept thinking "crap, what the heck am I going to do for 6 hours???" Luckily, the baseball playoffs were on so that kept me entertained. I slowly tried to get some sleep, but again all the wires made it a bit hard. About 45 minutes later I felt the urge to push. I started freaking out and told Josh to get the nurse. She came in and said "Oh, that's because your a 10!!" Holy crap!! I thought I had 6 hours to get ready for this but ready or no he was coming. She called the doctor and he was so shocked. We should've guessed it because my pregnancy the last 2 weeks was anything but normal. He got all ready and I pushed for about 30 minutes and out popped our little angel. While pushing, the Dr, nurse and Josh all took guesses on how much he would weigh. 8.5, 8.6 and 8.7 were their guesses. When the nurse told us he was 6.13 I about freaked!! Josh and I aren't the smallest people, how could this kid be ours!!! So funny!! I got to hold him for about 30 seconds before they took him to make sure everything was fine and clean him up. The next hour was hell!! The aftermath of having a baby is what no one tells you about!! After all was done, I was just so happy to finally get to hold Beau.
